Summary

We know most people don’t want to read a boring document explaining exactly how a useful website they just found on the internet protects their privacy. If you are such a person, we get that! So just to explain, we do not store data linked to you, do not sell your data to third-parties and protect your wishlists from outsiders.

So how do we earn money? We earn money via a commission system. If you select a product from our useful marketplace, we will earn a percentage from that sale. This is done via the affiliate program of Amazon.com, and is a common practice across the internet. Don’t worry, if you choose your wishes yourself, we will not modify that link to a commission link.

Technical details

Let’s walk trough the various technical aspects of this website together.

How are wishlists stored?

You might have noticed that for this website no account is needed. This is because we believe gathering data like this is not necessary for a website like this one. Though for more complex sites it might be useful to have an account like this, all functionality of a simple wishlist sharing app can easily be achieve without accounts. Therefore when you click on the “create wishlist” button, an entry in a database is made, this entry contains the following information:

  • id (This uniquely identifies your wishlist. It is used in the URL which you share)

  • the name (title)

  • the description

  • password (optionally)

  • theming information

  • when the wishlist was created and last updated

  • empty list of wishlist items

as you can see, no where is your IP address, personal information or anything else irrelevant to the actual function of the site stored. This way, even if our database would be hacked, no actual useful information would be leaked.

What information is stored of visitors?

For this site, umami is used. We self-host this analytics platform, ensuring that no analytics are shared with third parties. So why do we collect analytics like this? We have the following reasons:

  • Better understand which services are and are not used
  • See common issues when using this site
  • Detects down-time

As mentioned before, we do not share, sell or process this information outside our servers. By using a self-hosted open-source analytics platform, we can assure you that this information is stored only on our servers and never shared.

How do we earn money?

To start off, we do not earn money selling your data, information, analytics or anything like that. Instead we earn commision on saled made trough our gift idea helper. For this purpose we use the amazon API, which provides us with gifts you might enjoy. If you choose to add such gift to your wishing list, and someone chooses to buy this gift for you, we earn commision on that sale.

This business model allows us to pay the costs for hosting and developing this website without having to sell your data like many websites have to do.
